I work in a Title 1 high school where over 80% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. My students come from broken homes they go home each day to an unstable environment where they may not have electricity, they did not eat dinner, they have to watch their siblings every night or they may have children of their own, they are being raised by single-parents, aunts, uncles, or guardians, they have two jobs, etc Through all this, my students work hard. But, they do not have the luxury of being able to afford all their basic classroom materials. I lend out countless pens, pencils, and paper every day! School should be a safe, inclusive and stable environment! I want my students to have one less thing to worry about.
