Our students are required to buy headphones in addition to the regular yearly school supplies. Most of our students' families are unable to purchase this needed supply due to financial hardships. Even when the students purchase headphones they are very inexpensive and thus cheaply made and brake or fall apart quickly after a few uses. Our school is 80% free and reduced-price lunch.
Headphones for our differentiated learning centers and required computer-based programs would increase student learning significantly. Being able to listen to books being read increases literacy skills. Listening and playing educational games increase engagement and engagement increases learning!
