Cultivating a classroom library of high interest, quality YA books is essential to provide students with easy access to independent reading choices.
Students need access to diverse books that serve as both mirrors and windows for them.
According to Time Magazine, in 1984, 8% of 13-year-olds and 9% of 17-year-olds said they 鈥渘ever鈥 or 鈥渉ardly ever鈥 read for pleasure. In 2014, that number had almost tripled, to 22% and 27%. Daily independent reading is an integral part of our class every day, and a stocked classroom library allows students to have immediate access to books.
I would like to purchase high quality, high interest books by recognized YA authors such as Neil Shusterman, Marie Lu, Becky Albertalli, Angie Thomas, and others for our classroom library. Please help me spread the book love!
