Whiteboards work wonders in daily math instruction. Yes, paper and pencil are great too, but there is something to be said for having whiteboards where students can focus on the practice as opposed to the preparation. They don't need to spend time setting up their papers or worry about drawing something correctly. These pre-designed whiteboards are great for our K-5 students whose education has really suffered this past year.
Students have been fully remote since the beginning of the school year, and have few, if any of their own math manipulatives. When students do return to school they will be expected to have their own individual materials, and need as much support as they can get. These whiteboards will come in handy during math workshop. Teachers can have their students use the whiteboards during a mini-lesson, guided practice, partner work, or for independent use.
By donating to this project, you will not only be supporting students in need with materials, but also helping to improve their math proficiency so they do not fall farther behind. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students really need those foundational number sense skills and in 3rd through 5th grade, fraction standards play a huge role in their math curriculum. These white boards will help students work on these skills, so that they will be successful math students.
