Welcome to our Mathematics Research & Writing elective for high schoolers. These young mathematicians play, think, create & lead.
This class is designed for mathematically interested students and complements a traditional high school math program. The elective indirectly supports students in their math classes while developing the habits of mathematicians.
In this elective, the researchers have space for creative mathematical development without the constraints of imposed standards and state testing - this development encompasses habits, reading and writing as well as math content outside the K-12 standards.
Each student chooses a semester-long research topic to explore, write about and present. Some students' work gets published.
Second year students of this course tend to be future STEM majors in college. They spend a semester building a foundation in topics that will come up in their college math courses.
