My students are working hard to become tomorrow's engineers and scientists. Since I teach Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering, many of my classes are full of students who opt for more STEM classes than the District requires for graduation. I try to build my classes around investigative projects, rather than lecture and book work.
Students in my classroom also work on several extracurricular activities. I have established an after-school Makerspace, for which I'm trying to gather a wide variety of tools and materials. Students are invited to come in and build or make projects of their own design.
In addition, we participate in several structured engineering activities and competitions. Earlier this year, students raced a hydrogen-powered R/C car that they designed and built. They're currently building a solar-powered boat that they'll race later this year. For next year, our goal is to start a Robotics team.
