My students are active and driven four year old children. I have a classroom of twenty students. Each year vocabulary development prior to entering pre-k shows a great decrease. I work in an urban inner city were many parents may not have at-home libraries. Most students will only be read to at school leaving them at a disadvantage. Teaching at a school that has well over ninety percent of its students on free or reduced lunch provides a diverse home environment. Technology is steadily playing catch-up. We are developing lessons that needs to support and utilize various forms of technology in daily lessons. Establishing a classroom literacy center that supports student growth through technology will improve vocabulary development and increase early literacy retention. It is my goal to establish a classroom community that supports the whole-child and invest in equipment that will provide active engagement.
