My students are typical freshmen. They are a little bit goofy and really inquisitive. They want to learn, do well in school and go to college. They have lofty, but achievable goals. They will be doctors, attorneys, researchers and teachers some day. But they get frustrated at the lack of modern resources available to students in wealthier jurisdictions.
My school is an International Baccalaureate (IB) magnet school in Baltimore City. When our students leave high school, many of them will have already earned college credit from the IB and AP (Advanced Placement) classes. They need the technology available in the classroom to keep up with their needs.
Because my school is an IB magnet school, it attracts students from diverse backgrounds and families. Students in the freshman class come from more than 80 different middle schools. They come in with many different experiences and skills, but they want to succeed.
