Welcome to 10th Grade English! My students are taking honors and AP level courses (some for the first time) and come from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic backgrounds. They are willing to work hard and seek to be engaged. My students feel most at home with technology so I try to push them out of that comfort zone and into a realm of professional, face to face engagement. Materials and lessons must feel relevant to them, so selecting contemporary texts to add to our standard curriculum is key to fostering their curiosity and effort. They get excited when I am excited! The English classroom is a place to ignite passion, creativity, and dialogue, but it is also a place to develop critical thinking and communication skills that will reach far beyond a gradebook; "Seek growth, not grades!" is my classroom motto.
