Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are visual learners and benefit greatly from visual information and supports, such as iPads, and graphic organizers. If our classroom were to have iPads, we would have access to software programs and speech generating applications that our students could use for improving their listening, writing, reading, and speaking skills. The iPad would allow our nonverbal students to have a way of communicating and would help our students participate both academically and socially in the classroom. They would provide students with picture supports for understanding reading and writing prompts while helping increase student independence. By implementing technology such as iPads, my students will have similar opportunities to those in mainstream classes.
Your donation for this project would provide our ASD students with technology that will help give them a voice, visual and auditory stimulation, and the appropriate adaptations necessary for success.
