To facilitate minimal teacher direct-instruction and maximized project-based small group learning, I will need to get rid of desks in my classroom and replace them with individual comfortable chairs with attached desks, and other seating options, as well as long workstation tables for group projects. The students will have chairs in one part of the classroom for whole group instruction, and can move them to different workstations around the classroom. The chairs will make it easier for the students to move from the main class discussion area to the different parts of the classroom that they need to go to to do/finish their projects. The reason for the different seating choices is to promote comfort for students. They will have the beanbags and stools as seating options in the digital design, art, reading lounge or video recording areas of the classroom.
The chairs (as compared to the bulky individual desks in conventional classrooms) will promote big-group discussions and conversations, small-group brainstorming and collaboration, inter-group exchange of ideas, and easy movement to different workstations (art, digital production, research, journalism, recording).
Any help will greatly aid us in slowly achieving our academic goals of excellence and well-roundedness.
