Boom Cards are a fun way to practice skills using a computer or tablet. I have requested two gift cards from Teachers Pay Teachers so I can purchase Boom Cards for my students to use.
The best part is that Boom Cards are self-correcting so children don’t practice, and therefore learn, things incorrectly. Each deck contains cards with questions or activities that provide practice on certain skills. When a child selects an answer, feedback is given instantly. If a child chooses an incorrect answer, s/he must try again and cannot advance until the correct answer is given.
One problem that I had with independent centers before Boom Cards was that a child may practice reading or writing words incorrectly and I would not know until I checked the work at the end of center time. Boom Cards do not allow that to happen. Students must submit the correct answer before they can move to the next card.
Boom Cards allow students to practice skills in a fun and engaging way. Each card deck is presented in game format and feedback is given visually on the screen and through fun sounds.
Boom Cards also help teachers collect data on how each child is mastering specific skills. This helps us target our instruction to meet the needs of each learner.
Beginning a collection of quality, full length Boom Cards can be expensive. However, once a deck is purchased, it remains in my library from year to year so children will still be benefiting from your donation years from now.
