We are student's in a small, rural Western Montana elementary school. My students are interested in learning and experiencing a wide variety of musical styles and cultures but due to our geographic isolation and funding issues at the state and local level, it's difficult for us to afford the purchase of new instruments for our students to play. Our students come from a wide variety of cultural, and economic backgrounds and a large population of students in my district qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Despite their economic hardships, my students love coming to school, love learning and performing music from a wide variety of cultures and traditions, and they continually surprise and inspire me.
