Help us launch the new Environmental Science Lab at our school! Most of our students don't have backyards, and that is why our Environmental Science Lab and Courtyard Garden are so crucial to their learning! The Environmental Science lab will become the place for students to connect ideas in nature and is an extension of our outdoor vegetable and herb garden. We will learn about animal life cycles and have small critters in the classroom for our students to observe and take care of.
In the spirit of sustainability and protecting the environment, most of the supplies we need for our new Environmental Science lab have been recycled or repurposed from other parts of the school. We are using tables, stools, bookcases, and many leftover supplies gathered from other classrooms. However, we still need some manipulatives and program specific supplies for students to use and learn from, such as biodegradable and kid-safe, natural cooking tools and utensils for our nutrition labs; plant supports, garden season extension fabrics and other horticultural tools to keep a safe and healthy garden; and two specific technology items, a portable projector and overhead camera, which will allow students to explore our environmental issues through documentaries and other electronic media, to understand the connection between our built and natural environments.
