My students are high school students in a suburb of Northern California. Many of them are very excited about science because it is a class that includes a lot of hands-on activities. They enjoy using the labs that we do in class to "see" the science concepts that we discuss happen. The majority of my students take elective science classes in addition to required courses and have aspirations of attending prestigious universities.
