Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they are allowed to choose a location in the classroom that benefits them. Currently, my scholars are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: sitting or laying on the floor in the classroom or hallway with a clipboard. Giving them an opportunity to choose their own learning space, allows them to take ownership of their educational experience. I have noticed amazing differences in my scholars when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
The products that I have selected will give my scholars the option to choose a comfy location while reading. The chairs feature cushioned back supports that adjust to the perfect position…simply lift the backs of the seats to a comfortable height, then just lay them flat for convenient storage. These will be extremely beneficial for some scholars that just need to need a change of venue or they can also be used as an alternative chair if needed!
We will use these chairs not only during independent work time but create small groups discussion around the book "Home of the Brave" by Katherine Applegate that we are also asking for.
