The materials and books I am requesting for my students will have a large impact on their confidence and comprehension when it comes to reading. On a scale of 1-10, most of my students rated themselves a 7 or less when it pertains to their level of confidence while reading. They have also shared that they would like reading more if they were given texts that sound interesting or that they could relate to.
I want my students to be confident and excited, rather than intimated and uncomfortable, when they put a book in their hands. Each of the books requested is relevant to all of my students in some way, which will increase their desire to read. There will be numerous texts students read throughout the year that may not be interesting to them, so it is important that they at least have the opportunity to read something they truly enjoy during independent reading time or at home.
Helping students begin to learn that reading is relevant, important, and fun is a perfect way to build better readers. By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase student engagement, you will ultimately help to improve their academic achievement.
