Job skills are changing our future. The materials I am requesting for this project will help my students learn to code to make the robot perform certain goals. This will provide the students with exposure to technology they have not seen or experienced. This will also provide students with an academic area exposure that opens up an opportunity they might want to pursue at a higher level. The first item I chose was the robot named Dash. The students will begin working with Dash to understand coding to create directions for Dash to follow. Dash contains many pre-programmed skills and students must learn to plan, program, and observe the robot performing the skills which in turn allows the students to self-evaluate their programming. Learning to program will also allow the students to develop skills in communicating with partners.
Learning to code in kindergarten will enhance my students' reading skills in understanding the task, reading pattern as left to right, and increase their math skills.
When my students enter the classroom, we start with the basics of beginning, reading, writing, and math. Coding the robot will also begin with basic step by step programming. The requested accessories include: a whiteboard mat and markers kit which my students will learn to program for drawing shapes, letters and illustrations; challenge cards to enhance higher order thinking. The accessories kit contains items to move objects from one space to another, launch items at a target using force and motion; hard core case to store items students are not currently using to instill responsibility; also a xylophone to excite those students musically inclined. My goal for the classroom is that each individual will learn that all dreams are obtainable if you desire.
