I teach 5th grade math and science at a Title I elementary/middle school in Louisiana. My students are encouraged to reach and use their full academic potential beyond the classroom walls. It is my goal to always provide my students with resources and activities that encourage 100% active engagement and provide an opportunity for me to assess their understanding in ways that are pertinent to the lesson.
In math and science, my students are taught to be able to use real-world application with the skills being taught. Students learn best when differentiation is provided to cater to their individual learning styles. Centers are a major aspect in my class and I believe that my students benefit from them because it causes them to be critical-thinkers and problem solvers. Each center is structured for students to participate in inquiry-based learning and use those findings to demonstrate their understanding of a skill.
