Our school has some technology but all of it is either falling apart, outdated or nonworking. There are not nearly enough laptops or computers for the need we have. Our library has four old, donated computers, three of which work. I have classes of 25-30 students. As the media specialist, I am tasked with teaching research skills and other media lessons that require good, working technology for students to use individually. It is necessary to have Chromebooks for each student to use. Having a class set of Chromebooks that are under my complete supervision and care would certainly help us get on track with our lessons on accessing information.
Students at all grade levels will use these laptops to utilize databases, find reliable websites using evaluation strategies, and create presentations electronically, such as Power Points and Prezis. We need laptops to practice accessing our own card catalog as well as that from the public library. At this time, students work in groups to complete technology-related assignments or watch me go through the steps on our Clevertouch board. Posters must be made for display instead of using Prezi or another program. They are not able to practice separately.
