During our Decision Day on May 1st, students will be given the opportunity to be entered into a raffle to win prizes donated by YOU! As you already know, students from SHS come from low-income families, where about 80% of the school receives free or reduced price lunch. For this reason, many of the students are at a disadvantage and may not be able to purchase these college essentials for themselves on their own. The items I am requesting will be put to a great use by my students. Having a planner, desk lamp, alarm clock, back pack or tote bag will prepare a great start to a successful college career. With your generous donations, I am hoping to create a space to celebrate the seniors' accomplishments. Additionally, gifting them with these items will put a smile on a student's face and it will be a great way to show how proud we are of our senior class and their success for coming this far in the college process. Pictures and videos of this event will be shared on social media, where social media plays a prominent role in the lives of young adults, I am hoping that decision day will motivate future graduates of SHS and encourage them to pursue higher education while also celebrating the seniors this year to show them how proud we are of their accomplishments.
