I strive to make my classroom a vibrant place for learning through discussion, reading, and writing. Many of my students are economically disadvantaged, and many are English Language Learners who have limited language proficiency. I hope to instill confidence in my students, especially those who view reading as their most challenging subject.
This year my focus is to bring relevant discussions to the forefront through the works of diverse authors, foregoing the distant and not relatable works students often must read in their English classes. I do not believe that great things can only be learned from books deemed "the classics". Mark Twain once said, "Classic - a book which people praise and don't read." Funny that we won't be reading any of his books either.
Consider donating to our class projects so that we can continue to learn and grow with the best materials possible.
