Due to the pandemic, we sometimes struggle with time and safety constraints because of additional precautions required. We must share our equipment and it needs to be sanitized between each use. This severely limits students’ hands on experience with the robotic vehicles. When four students share one robotic vehicle, they rarely get more than one turn per class period. With the additional rovers and hubs requested, my students will have more opportunities to “beta test” their programming and debug it. The added equipment will allow for more in-depth experiences with technology. They will utilize these experiences as they prepare for their future education and careers.
With the additional equipment that we are requesting, we can have our own school-wide competitions. Due to the pandemic, our interscholastic competitions have been cancelled or postponed indefinitely. Without these competitions to look forward to, I have noticed that their motivation has dropped. More equipment creates more opportunities for competition and engagement. These additional opportunities will lead to more learning.
