My students are a part of the the AVID program, which is a college preparatory program geared for students in the middle, especially those who are first to go to college and underrepresented. Students in the program need encouragement both academically and socially, so the curriculum is based on those needs. My school is a Title 1 school with more than 75% of the students on free and reduced lunch, and there are 85% in the AVID program. Many of my students struggle to get their basic needs met and with educational cuts, they are asked to provide more.
