Sensory integration provides a foundation for more complex learning and behavior. Sensory challenges can affect the students ability to take in information, respond to requests, participate in social situations, write, and maintain a calm and ready to work state. There is much that can be done to help alter the environment and provide supports that will make the world a less overwhelming place for a student with autism.
By providing my students with sensory items, I will be able to be proactive in allowing my students to be successful in responding to requests and maintaining a calm and ready body throughout the school day.
All students have been through a rough transition for the past year and a half from the pandemic. Many students were unable to understand why they needed to participate in school activities from home. Then when they were able to get into a routine in home, they were again confused with the transition back to the school building. The materials in this project align with the Nevada Content Standards by allowing my students to be calm and ready to learn throughout the school day.
