Having a rug would present a lot of opportunities for my 2nd graders. We would have a designated morning meeting space to set the tone for the day. It would also become a zone where incredible lessons could spark imagination and increase curiosity. I am also looking forward to seeing students curled up on the rug diving into their new (maybe first) chapter book adventure. The rug would be the center for all learning taking place in our room, and I can't begin to imagine what stories it would say (if it could!) as the years pass and memories are made surrounding our beautiful classroom rug. It is wonderful to have flexible seating in 2nd grade. My students are very energetic. Year after year students seem to crave options and incentives. The rug would serve as another available area where flexible seating could occur with a pillow or everybody's favorite "criss cross applesauce".
