I am entering my fifth year of teaching ELA at the Academy of Innovative Technology, a Title I school in Brooklyn, NY. I strive every day to encourage a love of literacy with my ninth grade students and help them make connections between the texts we are reading and students' own lives. There is nothing more powerful to me than when a student is able to expand his or her literary knowledge through content that also helps them understand humanity and the way the world works!
My classroom caters to all types of learners and encourages creativity, inquiry, and critical thinking. I like to push my students out of their comfort zone and foster their ability to view situations from different perspectives. My goal is to guide my students at the beginning of their high school career into being literate, inquisitive members of their communities!
