Welcome to Montera Middle School! I am one of two art teachers at Montera Middle School. We are lucky to have a growing arts program in a district that is struggling (like many are) with funding cuts. My students are urban youth with diverse backgrounds. This school specializes in working with students of all needs, and we provide services beyond what many schools offer to help ensure that even our neediest students get what they need to succeed in school. That being said, our district is in extremely slim financial times, so though we have an art program, we have only funding for the bare essentials. My goal as an art teacher is to empower my students to develop their own artistic voice and to create things they are proud to own. I also want to connect them with artists who they can relate to, from their own communities.
