Our students in grades 1-5 love graphic novels and want to read them; however, we just don't have enough to satisfy their needs. Graphic novels make up 2.6% of our library collection, but account for 21.6% of this year's book checkouts. Our library budget was cut by half this year, and I just can't purchase as many books as I'd like.
Adding more graphic novels means more kids in more grades will have better access to the books they want to read! No more limiting students to 1 graphic novel at a time, or making kids wait till 3rd grade to check them out. We will be able to give our readers in grades more high-interest graphic novels, and in so doing, promote the love and joy of reading!
