My 6th grade students attend a Title 1 school in South Florida where 90% of students are on free or reduced lunch. We are an urban school located in one of our city's oldest neighborhoods. Because of the financial constraints of the families, I try to bring science to life in the classroom. We are able to provide very basic materials and resources for them to elaborate what they have learned. Our Magnet program allows numerous opportunities for our students to attend study trips so they may be exposed to a variety of places they would normally not be able to go to due to their financial limitations. My kids would love to be able to document these real life explorations but are limited to discussions and drawings of their experience and observations.
