Students will check out books to read independently promoting choice and self selected reading. Students will write about the chapters in their book to help with comprehension and writing skills. Students will discuss their books by using book talks and creating book trailers.
This will be the first book some students have read, independently, in middle school, that they actually get to choose. These books will foster a love of reading for students and they will want to keep reading and checking out these books. These books will create culturally relevant class discussions and have students feel like they belong.
