This coming school year, I will be teaching a group of transitional kindergarten students. This is a brand new program for those students with birthdays in the fall whose parents feel they are not quite ready for traditional kindergarten. I teach in a high poverty area, and my school does not offer a pre-school program. My classroom will be the first experience that this group of four year old students has with school. I have 24 students in the classroom, and it is a challenge to give everyone the individual attention they need. In order to be able to work with small groups or individual students I must provide a way for my other students to work independently.
