My students are an eclectic mix of characters with a beautiful mix of backgrounds and world views. Over half of the students at my school are eligible for free/reduced lunch, and we are in an under-funded, high-need, very rural area. My students may be from humble contexts, but they are truly some of the most interesting, creative, and openhearted people I've known. I am constantly amazed at the truth and authenticity they bring.
My French and theater arts classrooms are intellectual playgrounds where students are immersed in musical and cultural delights. Creativity and positive risk-taking are encouraged. Teamwork is required. It is my hope that my classroom provides students with both an invitation to explore and contemplate our places in this world, but also a soft place to land in the mine fields of their day-to-day lives.
Together we can make the world brighter, one song or costume at a time.
