I work with 1st and 2nd grade special education students with a variety of disabilities. They come from diverse backgrounds with unique learning styles and a wide variety of needs. Some of my families are not English speaking so it is difficult for them to work with their children at night as well as for me to be in communication with them. Many families do not have the resources to purchase books or technology for the home so school is the only time they are being exposed to these things. To combat this problem, I try to send home books with the students but often times they don't come back and get lost somewhere along the way. I also try and incorporate technology as much as possible into their school day so they can become successful at using this valuable learning resource.
