My first grade class is comprised of 23 highly diverse students at a public school in Hawaii with over 900 students. We are a Title One school with a large ELL and disadvantaged student population. 65% of our students participate in the free and reduced lunch program, and 25% are English Language Learners. We have many ethnicity's with 55% Asian/Pacific Islanders, 24%Caucasian, and 16% Hispanic students. Many students come from a low social economic households and do not have access to computers. I have only have one computer in my classroom, which is for teacher use only. My students are only able to visit the computer lab once a month, and only then when it is available. It is often canceled for testing purposes. My students need access to technology. Having two i Pad minis will allow my students to work as partners to share an iPad mini to access multiple Common Core learning opportunities.
