It may seem kind of wild to have a Ðǿմ«Ã½ project for a classroom set of chairs, but the best kind of learning usually stems from a crazy idea. My classroom has been, and will continue to be, a safe haven for my students. I want them to feel safe, comfortable and curious about their learning.
I have a dream of ditching our desks and plastic chairs and filling our classroom space with kitchen tables and chairs. People of all ages learn their best when they feel safe and comfortable. I want to continue to provide just that. I want a classroom that invites the kids who don't typically thrive in a classroom setting to come in and have a seat with us. I want them to feel welcome and connected before they decide it's another classroom that they might not be good enough in.
I want to have the same kind of dinner topic conversations with my classroom kids that I have with my own children at home because we all know that builds relationships and trust. Sometimes, it will be about geometry and grammar, but often times it's about what they do on the weekends and how that connects to what we are learning about. That right there? That's where the magic lies.
I believe with my whole heart, that when our classrooms are a branch of our individual teacher personalities, even more authentic magic can be made within the walls of our classrooms. I've scoured facebook marketplace, and I've done enough research to know that I can find quality tables on a budget. I will likely need six. I have hardly any chance at finding 26 sturdy chairs. We've been navigating uncharted waters throughout this pandemic. Why not practice what what I preach and dream big?
