As a teacher I get to walk around my classroom, sit in different spots, talk with different students through out the day. I would go CRAZY if I had to sit in one spot all day...day after...day. And yet this is the expectation that we put on our students EVERYDAY! I want to redesign my classroom so that my students can move throughout the day to new "learn" spots, and at the same time collaborate with different peers as we work through different lessons!
Not all students were created to SIT in ONE place for 7 HOURS! Everything on this list are different seating options for my students. I want to have 6 "learn" spots throughout my classroom. Each spot will be able to house at least 6 students! Students will be able to choose the spot that they thrive in. They will have CHOICE throughout the day to work where and with whom they need to. Flexible seating is the new and rising trend in classrooms. In an article by Lauren Drobnjak "As pediatric occupational and physical therapists, we believe in the power of movement! We believe that if students have the opportunity to choose alternative seating options throughout their school day, their bodies (and minds) will be awake and ready to learn!" YES! I want my students to be EXCITED to come to school everyday! I want to provide a place where students can find their strengths and prevail in the classroom. Please help me give this to my students. This isn't just for the 18-19 school year, but for all the students who will come through my room in the years to come!
