Students will learn about food chains, predator-prey relationships, and the recycling of matter and build a model of a salt marsh ecosystem. Then the engagement starts!
Students will examine microorganisms and then construct a model food chain based on the feeding patterns they observed.
Students then explore energy transfer through different trophic levels of a food chain using a simulation activity and develop a mathematical model for energy transfer between trophic levels.
Using their finding that all energy is not transferred, students calculate the energy flow through the food chain they created. Then students submit their findings and share with other students.
