My students are enthusiastic, motivated third graders in a diverse neighborhood on the north side of Chicago. My class is made up of mostly Latinx children who speak Spanish at home and receive bilingual services at school. All students are eligible to receive hot breakfast and lunch at school. Because of the diversity of the neighborhood, it is imperative that my students learn not only to appreciate themselves and their power, but also to appreciate others. We have recently been authorized as an IB school the primary grades, which means that we are committed to fostering global mindedness, inquiry, and student-centered learning.
