I have 16 very energetic first grade students. Just using paper and pencil does not keep their attention. They love to learn and explore by doing hands on activities. The Elementary school consist of about 200 students that contain first and second grade classes. Our school is a neighborhood school that is located in an urban area. The student body is a diverse group which has a high percentage of students from low-income to middle income families. We are a TITLE One school and have a large percentage of free and reduced lunch students. The staff and faculty work like a close knit family and our goal is to provide all students the opportunity to succeed! Before school starts the students meet in the cafeteria for Rise Shine and Read, where they practice reading and math skills. Before leaving breakfast they chant " Name of School" A Great Place to Learn!" I think students remember this chant and associate with our school into adulthood, because it really is " A Great Place To Learn!
