I teach reading intervention at a rural public school in Tennessee. My students are all economically disadvantaged and have come to school years behind in reading due to the lack of early reading experiences. Many of them have few if any books available to them in their homes. Many are unable to visit the library due to transportation difficulties. They are smart, capable and enthusiastic, but they are becoming frustrated that they cannot keep up with their peers in reading.
