Students will recreate landscape paintings, using algebraic equations, technology, and mixed media. Small groups will select a background scene from science-fiction to analyze and determine algebraic equations that will be used to recreate the scene with digital graphing methods.
Students' paintings will be used as backgrounds for green screen videos, a broader collaborative project between English and other Math classes. Challenging students to recreate landscapes for an exciting purpose motivates students and shifts their mindset from having to do math to passionately wanting to learn how to use math and solve problems.
