My music classroom is a place where students share in the joy of music, games, and dance while developing music literacy skills and working cooperatively in the classroom community. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade pass through my door everyday. They engage in singing, playing instruments, dancing, listening, reading, writing, composing, exploring, and improvising. Music education provides not only music literacy, but cooperative learning skills, important social skills, and a strong sense of community through working together toward a common goal. My goal as a music teacher is for my students to leave my classroom with confidence in their own unique voice, knowing they are loved and valued, and with the foundation necessary to meaningfully engage in a lifetime of musical experiences.
