As a teacher, I feel that it is important that I have literary resources to ensure that my students will both see themselves and get to experience the voices and views of others who aren’t like them, so that they become well rounded citizens.
This project is going to make a difference in the lives of my students by using books to learn about life lessons, discuss difficult topics, and relate to characters whose lives mirror their own.
I plan to use the picture books as read alouds. They will be the perfect segue to discuss topics such as celebrating differences, accepting others, and being friendly to those who are different from them. I also intend to have all of these books available in our classroom library for students to read independently.
This project will positively impact my students by giving them the opportunity to experience books and characters found within them that can help explain what is going on in our world in ways that are relatable to them.
