My students are bright, diverse learners in a Functional Life Skills (FLS) program. They come from various backgrounds and bring unique strengths and experiences. Many have intellectual or developmental disabilities and require hand-over-hand assistance, visual supports, and repetitive, hands-on instruction to master daily living skills. Several also have sensory processing differences, making them sensitive to lights, sounds, textures, or movement, so they benefit from calm, predictable, and adapted environments. Each day, they work hard to learn essential skills like organizing belongings, following routines, communicating needs, and practicing safety. Despite challenges, they show joy, determination, and a strong desire to grow. They thrive in inclusive, supportive settings that honor their diversity and help build independence, confidence, and self-advocacy for life beyond school.
