I teach in a school that primarily serves low-income students and families. The majority of my students are able to attend preschool because they either receive special education services or qualify for state-funded preschool. Many students in my classroom come to school learning English as a second (or third!) language. The families I work with want nothing other than the best for their children and they work so hard to provide all they can for our classroom and their children, given the resources they have.
My students have such an enthusiastic approach to learning and seek to take in as much as they can every single day. We spend a lot of time at school learning social emotional skills, self-regulation, and how to be great friends! In preschool, we prepare students, not only for kindergarten, but to be lifelong learners!
