My third graders this year are the most kind-hearted and hardworking individuals I know. They pour their all into their school work. They care about each other and often refer to our class as a "family". Their hearts capture mine every single day. Their minds are often worried about things going on outside of the classroom. At 8-10 years old, they worry about things such as how the water bill will get paid, where they might sleep, or how much food is in the refrigerator at home. The ability for these students to overcome these obstacles and still maintain a love for learning and other people blows me away. I learn more every day from this group of children than I could ever imagine teaching them.
