These books will be the backbone of our classroom library and will help build our collaborative community. Each book will be treated with care and read (and reread!) by students throughout my teaching career. As a first-year teacher, I do not yet have the means to provide the rich classroom library my students deserve. Any contribution to this library will directly impact not just these students, but many scholars to come.
I want our library to be a place where my students see themselves represented in the materials and are able to find engaging books that cultivate a lifelong love of reading! I have selected books that my students will be interested in and also made sure that the characters in and authors of these books represent the diverse backgrounds in our classroom.
The students will be able to choose books that interest them and take books home for independent reading. These books will also serve as research materials for author and literary studies. The books in this library will enrich my students' experiences with reading and cultivate independent and voracious readers!
