So... why do we want an axolotl? Axolotls are unique, critically-endangered amphibians. They live underwater their entire lives, and their genome - 10x larger than human's - holds secrets that inspire worldwide research. They have the mind-blowing ability to regenerate their limbs, jaw, and even spinal column!
Being able to interact with axolotls directly as we investigate genetics and animal adaptations this year will offer an unprecedented, fantastic real-life opportunity for my students!
We will read the books to learn how to care for our pets, and the aquarium kit, logs, sand and plants will create the habitat to make this experience possible.
