I serve as the only Professional School Counselor for my elementary/middle school of 585 students. We serve students in grades PK-8 and are a Magnet School and a World Language Academy. My school is located in a large urban school district in Illinois where we have record cold temperatures regularly and winter sometimes can last from October through April. Many of my students are English language learners, one third are low income, and 20% of our entire student body have identified special needs.
My goal is to educate these children in the three domains of school counseling: social/emotional, college/career, and academics. This requires lots of resources, materials, and technology. I meet with students in whole classroom, small group, and one-on-one settings. They all have very different needs, but with one thing in common: they are all excited to grow as students and global citizens!
